Hi all after reading the previous post on the use of copper tubing for fuel lines and methods of jointing can anyone tell me if PTFE tape is ok to use when joining BSP threads on fuel lines carrying diesel.

No it isn't.
PTFE is not resistant to hydrocarbon degradation and in case of fire could melt allowing a fuel leak which would exacerbate the fire.

Hi Boatmike thanks for your reply, do you know if there is any other type of tape that or paste that can be used with deisel.

I had a persistent air leak in my fuel lines that I was unable to trace for six months. It turned out to be PTFE tape degrading. I solved the problem by removal of this and use of Locseal (like loctite, but suitable for sealing fuel joints) - available from a good motor factor (and I dont mean Halfords!)

All joints should be either compression type with a metal olive or be sealed by a face to face copper washer. The practice of using taper threads on fuel lines is a "non preferred" option, and sealants should not be necessary. If you have a leaking joint relying on a thread seal change it for one that has a face seal with a copper washer, or a compression joint.
