Hi,
I have a small diesel leak on the fuel return banjo from the injector back to the fuel filter,i have renewed the copper washers but if anything it is worse,
i am at a loss, could the return pipe be blocked?

The engine is a sabb 10hp which runs like a swiss watch.

Interesting... it seems to have been the norm to route the fuel return to the filter on small engines - mine's the same on a Sole mini-14. I always wondered how the pressure regime works around the system. I guess whether blocked or not, the return line could be at pressure, after all its just been shot out of an injector, so the sealing requirement is quite demanding. I've had problems with some new copper washers not being annealed and so they wouldn't seal until heated to cherry red and quenched.

Rob.

I have same problem on a Bukh 20. Stripped, cleaned and replaced washers, but observing carefully leak is coming from banjo itself. There are no washers on banjo. Will try stripping again and cleaning with some grinding paste as advised by Bukh.

I d expect there to be sealing washers either side of a banjo.

Try annealing copper washers. Heat to a dull red heat, dont over cook them. No need to quench, just allow to cool.

Yes washers both sides,do you really need to anneal new washers?the washers are M8x12 as per book.

had same problem with my Saab 10 hp, found the seating face on the filter was scoured, cleaned up with a file, no further trouble.

as others have said anneal washers, if that fails locktite make an excellent sealant however it is a silly price. I have used it after repeated anealing on a vetus m310 generator did not do the job.

Had a similar problem on my old yanmar. I used a fibre washer I half expected the diesel to soak through after time but it didn't.

dribble update

I had forgotten the annealing trick, thx VicS

Seems an awful waste otherwise to use copper washers once only!

It seems that i have cured the leak,:D after annealing the copper washers on the banjo to no avail, i resorted to taking the injector out, this took some persuading, once out i noticed there is a large copper washer that seals the injector into the head, i annealed this washer and cleaned off the injector body with some fine wet and dry paper and put it all back together... result dry as a bone after an hour running at half revs.

I think that maybe on reflection it was not the banjo seal leaking but fuel somehow finding its way up the injector body and leaking out near the banjo.annealing that large copper washer on the injector head must have cured it.
