Would like to fit a new diesel pre-filter unit on my boat. Who around Cardiff sells these? I guess it'll be a commercial vehicle outlet, not a chandlers.
I'm sure there are loads but I get my filters from a place up in a place, I think called Ely bridge. It is down a road almost opposite the Calor gas place. They sell stuff for mine digger etc.

Actually, just to clarify, I was thinking of the whole filter unit rather than just the filter element. Got a CAV one at present in an awkward spot and I'd really like to move and upgrade this at some point in the months ahead.
I changed my CAV unit for a Racor this winter as my CAV was also in a difficult location and changing the filter always always resulted in diesel in the bilges, a fiddle with all of the sealing rings and the inevitable bleeding. The Racor unit is very expensive in comparison (around £90) BUT, you replace it from the top so no diesel loss, only one sealing ring and no bleeding except for replacement of the secondary engine filter which means far less fuel to draw up. The filters are not much different in cost from CAV filters. Bought all of it on Fleabay
Yeh, that's what I was thinking of. Easy enough to fit? Did you need new pipes / end-fittings? Is it possible to buy these locally or is online the only option?
Because I was having fuel problems I replaced all of the pipework from the tank right through the system to the fuel pump and then back to the tank from the injector return, and so replaced the filter assembly while I was at it. I used flexible reinforced rubber/nitrile fuel pipe. As I mentioned previously I bought everything through Ebay apart from the inlet/outlet connections to the Racor which I bought from ASAP - http://www.asap-supplies.com/
ASAP (who are a bit pricey but very good) also do the filters - mine is a 500 which is more than man enough for my 23hp Beta as the Racors are built for much higher fuel consumption.
Thanks guys. Sounds like I need to have a word with ASAP. My CAV filter was changed last summer and is a) leak free b) difficult to get at c) showing no signs it needs changing. So I might get all the bits together for a change to Racor in the autumn rather than waste good summer cruising time! Got a spare on board anyway.
ASAP is your best bet, all depends on what type you are going to buy, my replacement
filters for the unit cost around £17.50 plus p&p. I think I would try Fleetwheel next time around as the do a simular type with the filters half the price..
