Dear bods of the forum

I'm about to backflush my new separator ( THIS IS THE LINK ) - I've just done a biggish run and the boats been laid up, so I'm draining the crud / filling and treating the tanks this morning and thought it prudent to backflush the filters.

Anyway - the last item on the instructions - 'close the bleed screw and prime the filter' - does 'prime' mean 'allow the filter to fill up and close the bleed screw'?

I know what prime means. I also used to write technical manuals, and this instruction doesn't follow my old addage of 'assume the new user knows nowt.'

As this is supposed to be a 'reduce downtime' bit of kit I'm assuming that you don't have to bleed the whole fuel line i.e. there's no air in once you reopen the fuel line?

/end of daft question

It looks like a good piece of kit. The instructions are not well written though as is shown by the instruction to "open drain valve, push in and turn". This I assumes means "push in and turn the drain valve to open it".

To answer your question I think that priming the filter is simply bleeding air out of the unit via the bleed screw having opened the fuel supply valve. Once fuel comes out of the bleed screw, close the bleed valve - the filter is then full and ready for use.
