Good evening

I am in the process of buying a princess 415 1987 with twin Volvo Penta 61a 306hp) on shafts with 4 blade props the boat is currently in Plymouth and I plan to sail it to Inverclyde in Scotland what sort of fuel would I be expected to use the boat has 1200 litre tank.

I don’t know the boat but planing boats generally have tank capacity for circa 250 miles at normal cruising speed

I have had boats from 33 to 65 feet and the range was the same ... sadly the tanks just get bigger !

If you think along the lines of 0.8 - 0.9 Mpg, you wouldn't be too far out.
Distance could be 550-600 miles, depending on stops.
So maybe 3000 Litres?

It would also be worth pricing up road transport as another option.

Trips like you are envisaging are more about weather conditions than 'how much fuel I will use' or how many miles to the Gallon/Litre etc
I beg the question
Do you ask about fuel consumption vis a ve the 'Range' you can achieve on a tankful of fuel or the cost of the Journey?
Or how many nautical miles you can achieve on said size of fuel tanks?
As a Rule of Thumb most motorboats of the type you have purchased will do 150 to 200 miles before you need to look to re fuel to be safe and sound. The Princess 415 will Cruise quite nicely at about 16 to 20 knots if She is well found and clean of bottom. Plus if weather conditions allow. So that means after 10 hours per day, ish, you will cover 150 to 200 miles, simple really isn,t it. 1200 Litres equals about 266 gallons or thereabouts I think. The engines will burn 5 gallons an hour each maybe? You are looking at 500 nautical miles of the top of my head. Some will say transport the Vessel by road I would say go for it by Sea. Despite of the Cost. The learning Curve for yourself and the capabilities of the Boat would far outway the economics I suggest!
 
Range is an awkward measurement. Gallons per hour is better. I surprised myself once in a heavy head sea by only achieving 2/3's of my expected range, that lost 1/3 in only 45 miles of head sea on a 150 mile trip. Got in on fumes and a prayer
 
I had a Princess 410 with the 62A motors in , a lighter and more sea friendly hull than the 415, you won’t see 1 mile per gallon with that hull and engine combination at planing speed, you would be best taking you time and doing the trip at displacement speed that way you will see better consumption.

Admittedly taking a 14 day cruise during Hurricane Gert wasn't the best passage plan, but sod it, I'm on the clock! Anyway, if I recall correctly between epithets and aspersions you followed my meanderings from port to port with some grudging approval, even if I did pop the lav porthole rounding Bardsey at the most inappropriate time, at least I learnt the boat's limits. :p
