Hi, can anyone give me the approximate fuel consumption of the Volvo TAMD61A 306hp engine?
i have recently purchased a Princess 435 with twin engines and cannot seem to find what they are likely to burn. I think the average cruising speed is 15-16 knots. Some claim a top speed of about 20 knots but I rather doubt that!
But if you have a P435 perhaps you will know?
many thanks

I have the predecessor TAMD60C twins. I reckon on around 1.5MPG combined consumption at 16 knots cruise with clean bum and props.

I would have thought your's will be slightly less for the extra length. Load weight will make this vary - I generally work on tanks 1/4 - 1/2 full, topping up for a longer run.

However, this end of the season the boat struggles to achieve 16 knots WOT, and I suspect this is mostly due to barnacles on the props. The rest of my season will be at 8-9 knots, but for the Solent that fine, plus the raggies wave back !

I had a Princess 435 with TAMD71A engines many years ago and I would reckon on 1.0-1.2nmpg at 20kts. My boat maxxed out at 28kts so I would expect a P435 with TAMD61A engines to max out at 25-26kts and happily cruise at 20kts. Excellent boat btw. One of the best I've owned

Ive got Tamd61a in our Sedan 36, i reckon once beyond 2200 - 2300 rpm your looking at 1mpg. Flat out these engines burn nearly 15gph each, and they should make 2800rpm so long as correctly propped and the hull isn't heavily fouled.

The princess 435 is a great boat, built like a tank but a fair bit heavier than the Turbo / Sedan 36. With the Tamd61a fitted, pending on hull fouling, weight carried etc i would reckon your 435 would still make low to maybe mid 20's WOT, and a nice cruise speed in the high teens, bearing in mind our engines aren't spring chickens anymore :).

Thanks to all for your information, and thanks to Deleted User for your kind comment, yes I am really enjoying the boat and feel it's very capable! SWMBO loves the aft cabin! So hopefully I can keep boating for a few more years :)

I had a Fairline Phantom 38/41 with 61As. She was good for 24knots @ 2800 rpm and cruised @ 20 @ 2500. All the calculations I made came out at 0.8 to 0.9 mpg.
