2 x Volvo diesel 230hp on shafts doing about 4/5 knots up and down river. 37 feet, flybridge, planning hull

Yes I know it sounds daft doesn't it?

Any idea of fuel consumption? Not much I guess and less expensive than cleaning out the turbos once they've got very sooty...

hard to be precise but basically sod all in boat terms. I would estimate somewhere between 2 to 4 litres an hour tops. If you can, run on one engine only once you are out of the marina, so that it will warm up properly and get a bit of load on it. I used to go one way on one engine and return using the other. Check that the other prop shaft isn't rotating or only very slowly. If it is swap engines every hour or so.

If there is a safe place give it a good blast a few times a year (estuary etc)

My old Fairline Mirage with a single Volvo 60hp only managed a gallon an hour at 4-5mph. I think you'll be looking at much more than a gallon an hour per engine but by how much I can't say.

Pop this thread over onto the Thames section and you should get an instant reply.

That description sounds very much like a Fairline T36 with non-small engines...;)

To be honest I have no idea. The consumption book for my Princess 385 starts at 8kts. My tanks are so big (1100 litres..) that the piddly bit you use on the river doesnt even register on the gauges after a full days cruising. Tend to put in a few hundred litres a couple of times a year (unless going coastal..) and the tanks are always about half full.

My Sunline with twin 120 hp Merc Diesels uses less than 1 gph on the river at avout 5 Knots. I think your bigger, heavier, more powerful boat will use circa 1.5-2 gph.
