how can I fix fuel cap? I need new washer to stop leaking, but what material? 30 quid for new cap is outrageous!

I assume its the gasket under the ent screw that you need ?

But try a lawn mower shop they may have a suitable washer.

Would an O ring do the trick

IIRC I found a new cap for an old outboard of mine on ebay.

I expect the vent screw is captive and that you will bugger the cap getting it out ...................... then you will need the new cap

A fibre washer usually coloured red.

The leak on my Mariner fuel tank turned out to be a crack in the male thread of the tank and was not from the cap. I eventually found a replacement second hand tank since a new one would have needed a mortgage. So .. be sure where the leak is from before spending money.
