Has anybody any experience of using the fuel barge at Honfleur. The port website states that you need to give 3 days notice and they will organise a barge to visit (min fuel reqts) I just wondered if anybody had experience before deciding on Le havre as best option because would much prefer to go straight to Honfleur. I have read Petrolia blog but anybody with any other tips on Fuel up to Paris would be great.

You can't get fuel in Honfleur harbour.

For small quantities, you can go the gas station located Cours Albert Manuel at about 500 meters from the Vieux Bassin.

For bigger quantities (over 200 litres), it is possible to get a tanker during the week. You have to book a few days before and the delivery must be done in the avant-port.

May be useful for others IF it works however I did e-mail the club and have had no reply hence my post.
 
When I was at Honfleur a few years ago there was no fuel.The first place I found where we could fuel alongside was a barge just south of Rouen.Access to fuel afloat was a problem all the way to Paris and was not available in the Paris Arsenal Marina.We were lucky as our 2GM20 could go a long way on a jerry can full of diesel which we purchased from local garages.I assume this is not an option for you? If it is there is a filling station in the supermarket about 100 yards from the western end of the old port.This may be out of date and the situation has improved since then.FWIW we found that Navicartes were not to be relied on in respect of fuelling points etc all the way to the Med so we adopted an 'if we see it get it' policy on fuel even if it meant a long walk.
 
Thanks somerset. I think you are right about see it Fill it. From usual books and charts though and recent blogs (petrolia) I also believe things may be improving year by year. I am carrying extra cans as only hold 48gals so need to fill after channel crossing then again at Rouen and then ?
 
We jerry canned it at garages all the way from Rouen through Paris to St.Mammes where we left the river and entered the canals.There is/was fuel alongside at St.Mammes.Once in the canals we were on jerry cans again.Once we were out of them and on the Saone and Rhone we could get fuel at some of the Marinas.I never spotted where the peniches bunker.

Are you going all the way to the Med?
 
Only to Paris unfortunately but one day! Been boating around the solent now for 3 years and thought it time I stretched my legs. Got inspired by the Petrolia blog and thought Paris would be ideal first cross channel destination in my little falcon.
Just need a good window around the 25th July now as I only have 2 weeks to do it so not ideal from that point of view. Thanks for the info on fuel. Sounds like I may have longer arms soon.
 
There are moorings by the Eiffel Tower but they are very prone to wash.Paris Arsenal has a waiting pontoon with a doorphone.Tie up there,speak to them and then you go under the embankment road and lock in.They speak English and are/were very helpful.Fair old trudge to the supermarket which is south of the marina on the way to the Gare de Lyon (they will deliver).The nearest petrol station is/was on the embankment a fair old walk south of the marina.

Fuel notwithstanding I would suggest going direct to Honfleur if time is restricted.Our Kelt 850 did about 5 knots under engine but we made Rouen on one tide (there are very few places that are practical stops so it is best to try to make Rouen in one hop).You may well encounter ocean going ships which throw up a lot of wash.

Best place to stop in Rouen was Wiltard's which is about 3 bridges towards Paris.Shops include a baker and butcher just outside the marina on the left.Watch out for the turning tide - it is extremely fierce.

Technically you will need a permit for the Seine above Rouen.The office for this was out of Wiltards and up north along the road till you get to the T junction at the bridge.From memory the office was on the left.They only took cash when I was there.

Rouen appears to be a training base for the Douaniers.We were boarded by 2 experienced officers whilst their trainees waited on the pontoon pending any offences being detected.Fortunately our papers were bomb proof and once that was out of the way we had a coffee and a chat.

The first lock at Amfreville is a bit daunting especially if there are peniches using it at the same time as they keep their props turning which throws small boats around a bit so its best to stay tied up till they have left the lock.

We went to Paris in 2002 and took on Fuel in Le Harve, the fuel barge just after Rouen and at PK120.

Thank you somerset, I have taken note and added your tips to my growing preperation library. Ref the douaniers I understand the current hot one is out of date flares. French do like a regulation, I have just downloaded the atis regs for the radio. about 100 pages of complete nonsence to carry on the boat. Still when in france and all that.
 
Jimg Ta for that too. Is the hose for that pump bloody long or is it tantalisingly short. Have read somewhere that fuel at port d`illon was £1.30 a litre ouch!
 
Yes, thank you jimg read printed and stashed.excellent reference particularly liked the pictures. Many show idyllic moorings with only one or two boats, not sure it will be quite so quiet in July.
