It might not be connected but I filled my tanks up (260 litres), which were half empty, just a few weeks ago. Since then I have diesal bug in one tank and water. Up to now no problems at all, as I say it might not be connected but, the old fuel (half tank) did not show any signs of a problem until I filled up.

Has anyone else had a problem with fuel from Hythe Marina?

First: how much water is there in the tank, is it a reasonable amount or is it excessive; if it is excessive then contact the marina as if there is a problem they will need to know about it so they can stop fuel sales, and resolve the issue.

It may be another problem such as condensation forming in your tank if it is not full during the winter, or colder months, the much warmer weather would ensure the water and fuel would allow ideal conditions for diesel bug. Have you got any other fuel such as bio fuel or vegetable oil in your tanks, many use this instead of diesel, or mix it with diesel for economy; this bio fuel or vegetable oil is prone to being hygroscopic and sucking up water.:confused::confused:

I would have thought Hythe would be a bad place to buy fuel as the turnover is low and confined to the marina berth holders and house residents, plus fuel is cheaper elsewhere.

With a low turnover in volume supplied there is every chance the bug growing in there tanks.

Im assuming its in your new boat and not the freeman you have?

Have you also considered that the deck filler might be letting water in as the was a newish Squadron in Port Solent a couple of weeks ago that had a large amount of water in the tanks due to a poorly designed filler cap with a useless seal on it.

From what I heard Fairline were picking up the bill for the fuel poilishing, id have insisted the tanks were drained, cleaned and new fuel in, imagine what it can do to a nice new pair of motors!.

Where do you think is much cheaper ,then? Havent filled up for a few weeks, but it was about 84-86p, I think, with the 60/40 split.

.

You might be right about the low turnover but I've been there for fuel only a few times - the lock is often quicker than queueing in the hamble.

And they are very friendly and helpful having kept it open past dark for me wehen I rang ahead in the past.

Shamrock and Saxon boats in particular shouldn't dismiss it as they get their bertholder discount there.

And I'm certain they'd jump on it like a shot if there was a problem.

I filled up at Hythe today, and am a Saxon berth holder. You're right that discount does come in handy! I agree they are a very friendly lot.

This is my new boat, I sold the Freeman last month. I noticed the fuel guages were not moving on this boat, so I topped up the tanks at Hythe. I need to change my fuel guages as they were not registering the fact the tanks were half full. This means that the tanks have been like this all over the winter months and probably for a year prior, as I understand the boat had been on the hard at Lymington for nearly a year waiting to be sold. At the time I thought the tanks were full. The problem came to light when the port engine would not start. The engineer said the prefilter bowl had watewr in it, when he cleaned this out and changed the filter, the engine started right away.

I did put some Marine 16 in the tansk, but will dose them up again.
