I,m just having new risers & manifolds fitted as old ones look to be suspect (small rust deposits on plugs). I have a brand new freshwater cooling kit sitting in my garage & am thinking of taking it over with me and fitting it. Any one help with advantages/disadvantages with this system. Ican't really see any disadvantages, fresh water cooling is far more preferable, less corrosion, and with the correct amount of antifreeze less chance of the engine freezing and splitting the block!!

Can't see freezing being a problem where Nat is!

I put a similar post on the Bayliner Owners Club site before I moved to Majorca and to my surprise the concensus seemed to be not to bother if the boat had already been in saltwater.

I still wonder whether it would be worth it though

Freezing unlikely to be a problem, but there is little point converting to fresh water without taking advantage of being able to use a corrosion inhibiter, er like antifreeze! Salt water can eat right through a sleeve or block, and so can fresh, but with inhibitor it cant. Go for it and use inhibitor right from the start. Yes its work but beats decorating!

Risers and manifolds will still have salt water through them. Only the block will be protected.
