Our fresh water pump does not hold pressure when turned on, therefore continuously on. We cannot locate any leaks, and the accumulator looks ok. Any ideas?

We have used a tyre pump to increase pressure but it didn’t hold pressure. Would we need to purchase a new accumulator?

If the valve(s) in the pump are faulty, or possibly not sealing properly, due to particles of dirt for instance, the pressure will not be maintained, so the pump will run continuously.

Hi. All of the above relevant...but I’ve seen this twice now and it’s ended up being because the owner was unlucky and didn’t open up and drain the water out the intake filter bulb to the pump. They both had a tiny crack in them from freezing over winter.

Accumulator will have no effect ruptured or not. Problem is non return valves not sealing.

+1 for valves in the pump

but if the pump never cuts out, just runs continuously, a defective pressure switch is another possibility but you might then notice that the pressure in the taps is unusually high

Constantly pumping ?
+2 for the micro switch. Check first. ???

You can get cheapo knock off micro switches from Ebay.
Remove old one, get number from casing .With you in couple of days .All chandleries are shut.
Buy two.
Simply job need small screwdriver, electrical connections push on Lucar connectors.
Only real grief is normally finding and getting to pump.
Suspect many pumps dumped for the sake of a micro switch.

Genuine £15.00.
Knock Off £3.00.
My knock off switch OK for 3 years so far. Spare is on boat....somewhere.

Apropos nothing.
If you water pump keeps on over heating and cutting out, due to people staying on your boat demanding to stay clean and fragrant ......a Bodge.
You could buy a brand new more powerful and more expensive pump.
Or
Enclose the pump in nifty little casing (design your own) and put a computor fan at one end wired in parallel to pump.
Works a treat. :)
Certainly beats being moaned at when the last person in the shower (wife/daughter) loses water half way through a hair wash. :(

I had these symptoms last summer and spent a lot of time and considerable expense trying these suggestions and more to no avail.
The fault was an air leak in the stop valve on the fresh water tank. Air was being sucked into the system before the water pump but there was no physical sign of a leak .Changing the water stop valve cured the problem instantly.
I take small comfort that that I now have a spare pressure switch/accumulator/connectors/filters etc etc. This was an absolute b to solve, hope this post may be of use
