I need a new fresh water pump. The options in the chandlery are the same brand and (from memory) about £80 for one recommended for 1 outlet, or £180 for up to 3 outlets.

In practice, we only ever use one outlet; would the smaller one suffice? I was thinking a smaller pump might draw less current and help us save water.

Would there be a noticeable noise difference between the two?

Thanks in advance.

We opted for the diversity factor argument - do not often have more thna one outlet running! So one putlet pump is good.

Consumption is not going to be very different or very relevant - how much do you run a pump?

Noise, well they are all noisy and not likely to make much difference either.

The size of the pump is normally measured in litres a minute. The small ones only pump around 4L/minute which would be enough for the galley but you couldn't shower with one that small. A Par-max 4L/min costs $A115 in Australia. A par-Max 11L/min costs $A135.
A Chinese pump on eBay 5L/min costs $A21 in Australia. and a 21L/min costs around $A90

Not really anything to do with the number of outlets, rather how much water you want to come out of tap when you turn it on. We originally had a 11l/min pump fitted on board but that died and I replaced it with a 15l/min one, both with a 40psi cut out. We found the larger capacity pump to be much better than the original, especially for the shower. Word of warning though: with the extra capacity, it's all to easy to easy for visitors to go through a tank full in the course of a shower......
