Has anyone had this fault and sorted it? My pump is starting every 10 seconds for a brief burst and is allowing the flow back to the tank. The non return valve is failing, it may be a piece caught in the flap or whatever it is, but I can't see how to open up the housing. Any ideas, before I buy and install a seperate non return valve!
PS the pump is a Universal Whale

Your constant cycling is almost certainly caused by a small piece of debris trapped in the suction valve of the pump. Fitting a NRV valve downstream of it will probably not cure it, unless the debris trapped is in the discharge valve, far less likely.

I have not owned a Universal Whale but I have opened and cleaned Jabsco and Shurflo pumps very many times. Suggest you work out how to open it, or get someone to show you, clean it out and install a strainer in the suction line when you replace it.

Is THIS the one. I would start by undoing the four screws on the bottom and see what is revealed. The pump head should then be exposed and you should be able to see the problem. If not then ring customer technical service at Whale for advice. It appears to have a built-in strainer but it might be an idea to install a seperate one.
