We were in Newtown Creek on Wednesday and had a lovely swim. When showering off afterwards, a couple of local swans took great interest in the fresh water.

We filled a plastic container with water which they gratefully drank - in total approx 1 litre per swan !

I guess there much be a shortage of fresh water for them to drink nearby, so when you are out boating this weekend you might like to do the same, as they were clearly in great need

Did they manage to take off again afterwards, or did they slowly swim around the creek in circles, a little low in the water, and listing slightly to one side? :)

When did they move Newtown Creek, it was still in the Solent last time I looked?

For the sake of clarity...

One of the shower block cleaners at our marina regularly takes out a few cups of drinking water to 'feed' the swans.

Does that make a comment on the water quality in the river, even the Swans won't drink it?

It's not a river. It's the English Channel.

Well, I was talking specifically about the swans at my marina rather than the OP's...
