Does anybody know of any fresh water cooling conversion kits out there, or where to get heat exchangers and the like.
I wish to convert a raw-water cooled 4cyl ford thames trader diesel engine to fresh water cooling before the head turns completely into rust
cheers

and by 'out there' I mean in the uk

You can use a universal bulkhead mounted heat exchanger. As these are not engine specific you will have a good chance of finding one secondhand.
You will then need a water cooled manifold. These are realtively easy to make if you have basic welding skills as they are only a set of pipes encased in a box. These are the cheapest options and will still make a 100% reliable conversion.
(Been there, done it!)

A successfull solution.

Fitted a Martec Fresh Water cooling conversion in 1994 to my Bukh 20. It has worked very well since then with one major service when I took off the heat exchanger and treated it to remove a build up of deposits on the tubes. This kit uses an electric pump to circulate the fresh water. I use an additive in the fresh water to reduce corrosion and as an antifreeze.
