Hi - I am in need of some help.
I have been talking to a French broker about a boat and when I have asked whether the vat has been paid he claims it has asked it has been in France for nearly 20 years - but hasn't sent me a copy of the papers.

Does anyone have a copy of a French vat paid paper so I know what to look for.
Thank you in advance
Jon

Think you will find that the French registration document confirms that VAT has been paid. French are much better at keeping records show as this as registration is compulsory.

Thank you - so if I was to buy the boat - it would be wise to have that paper or a copy at least for proof.
Thanks again
Jon

I bought a 20 year old Boat from a Broker in St Malo. Among the documents they gave me was the original invoice for the boat showing how much the boat was, who the original buyer was and how much VAT was paid. Apparently in France this is normal

Ask boats.co.uk. They'll charge you £1,000 plus 10% + vat for the privilege of funding out......if they actually know what they are looking at!

You will get a copy of the registration document. The owner will need to remove it from the French registration or transfer to you for eligible. The broker should do all this for you. While it is good to have the evidence doubt that you will ever be asked to show it on a 20 year old Boat except perhaps to the buyer when you come to sell.

Thank you for all the advice - I 'm just trying to get everything in order so I don't get any nasty surprises especially where tax and money are concerned
