In planning next years programme, it occurred to me that now we have a French boat, it might be nice to go and do a French regatta next year but I know two tenths of bugger all about them apart from the Classic circuit.

A quick Google has revealed very little (just lots of people trying to sell me a boat) so I wondered if any forumites had any experience of the French equivelents of Ramsgate Week, Torbay Week or Dartmouth?

You do not say whether you boat is in the Med or in northern France or what you sail but here are some suggestions:

Northern France

Spi Ouest-France (at Easter in La Trinite sur Mer, Morbihan

Grand Prix de l'Ecole Navale (June in Brest: one design classes only)

Normandy Sailing Week (June in Le Havre)

In southern France:

Primo Cup (February in Monaco, one design classes only)

Massilia Cup (Marseille April)

SNIM (Marseille April).

If you're in the north, Spi Ouest is a superb event, an absolute must; if you're in the Med Marseille is a wonderful venue and the sailing area is splendid.

I would say that in French events the focus is more in the sailing than on the social side of things.

What type of boat? the Costarmoricaine Raid was great.
Great food, Dinner and breakfast included, lots of wine/cidre and great sailing, support and organisation.
