Often the original is grammatically correct, but just not the way a native English speaker would put it!

Oh yes! Working here in Saudi I'm lucky that the office language is English (my native tongue), but it hasn't prevented me from being in some significant meetings where everyone else seems to speaking English, but one that I don't understand.

Koreans, French, Spanish, Pakistanis, Greeks, Indians and Poles are involved in this project and all can speak and write English better than I can speak their languages but some challenges still emerge with meeting minutes and actions.

Fortunately, the use of a common language in the workplace is known as a 'lingua Franca'. Literally 'French language'. So I have a tame French colleague that can translate from 'office English' to 'South of England English'... I don't know what I'd do without him. I suppose I'd have to speak a little louder (thank you Alan Whicker)

Increasingly, universities all over Europe are using English for their courses. Unfortunately that is often a sort of rudimentary English that you would have trouble understanding unless your native language is the same as the speaker’s. Anyone who makes a remark about the quality of their English is shouted down with cries of ‘internationalisation’ and ‘English is the language of science’. If you venture the opinion that that is to the detriment of the language of the country, you are frowned upon as hopelessly out of date.
