Only 8 days before we take off on our 5 month French cruise /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif (Couldn't find a smug bar steward smiley).

Anybody know the dates of the main French National/school hols? I can only think of Bastille Day and that's normally really good fun.

The rest of the time I'd like to be ahead of 'les hordes' (don't think that's French ... just sounds like it should be)

Thanks/merci.

Not too close to now but advice for the future, don't drive or atempt to go anywhere in the south on the first or last day of August, as that is when ALL French going down to the south choose to go, known as 'Les Aoutiens' (I-oo-see-enn)

Traffic comes to a standstill, not too important for a cruise i know but still a good thing to know /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

have fun!

Mon Diex mon ami .... just want to eat the food, drink the wine and relax, not go on a Linguaphone course !!!!

Cheers Ken

Blimey - Ken's mange un Dictionnaire Francais!
Zut alors, Mange tout Rodney, chaise longue, chaise longue!!
I can certainly endorse the August bit, the first weekend of August is also known as Le Weekend Noir, after the usual tragic deaths on the road. It's especially worse on the Route du Soleil which is the motorway from Paris to Lyon.
Pre book hotels if you travel august, and take the confirmation with you!
I usually go last week June/first week July and to our little secret hidey hole 3rd week September for a fortnight.
Bonne route mon ami!
'Mes pantalons sont au plein du fromage'
'frappe le singe sur mon tete' - with a big smile sometimes helps when dealing with police for minor issues!!

Just a nuance but which doesn't concern your present plans; the winter (February) and Easter holidays are staggered by region.
