French flag requirements

You don't need any certificate at all to sail a private French flagged yacht in French waters. A "Permis de Bateau" is only required for power-craft.

If you want to captain a French-flagged commercial sailing yacht then you are out of luck. You would have to hold a Permis Hauturiere which is a lot more difficult to obtain than an RYA Offshore Commercial ticket, and there is no equivalence.

Someone is looking for a skipper to do a bit of sailing on a French flagged vessel.

Anyone have an idea of what i'll need to do to satisfy French beurocracy given that I already have an RYA offshore commercial?

A certified translation of whatever bit of paper you did not think you needed. Generally better if you can get it stamped by the Mayor's Office and the Chamber of Commerce too....

The Permis Hauturier is *not* a commercial ticket nor it is for sailing boats, it's for non-commercial motorboats sailing more than 6 miles from a safe haven.

The lowest certificate to professionally skipper a commercial French flagged sailboat would be the "Capitaine 200 - Voile", which is similar to the MCA Master 200grt. If you hold an MCA Master of Yacht 200 then you may ask for a "visa de reconnaissance" basically an equivalence.

In practice, a vast proportion of commercially skippered sailboats use different legal structures where there is no need for professional qualifications (sic).
