Having been nourished on a Olin Archers and heavy long keepers in my old age out here in Galicia my only choice seems to be 1970 fin keelers
designed to win IOR races my biggest fear is running aground, although difficult nothing is impossible. One comes to hand Jouet 24 in Santander a mighty voyage along the iron bound coat of northern Spain in the autumn, any comforting words regards French fin keepers?

I never seen the rocks littered with them, then or now.

Your fears are ungrounded (sorry for the pun!) but thousands of French sailors use their fin keeled boats happily around the equally rock strewn NW coast of France. Just exercise your excellent navigation skills to keep your boat in the water where it belongs instead of bashing the hard bits. The fact that you are looking at 30-40 year old boats that are still being used with keels still firmly attached - why should they suddenly be a problem for you?

Survey tips aside - is the keel present at time of inspection - I think you will enjoy the nimble sailing of a good ( Good!) fin keeler
But which design ?
Hmm
What about a wee French boat , in France, on a trailer perhaps ?

Some nice skeg hung rudders here .... the one on the left could do with anti-fouling on the deck and mast though ... it was being used as a submarine ? ? ? ... just remove all the rusting iron from the bulging and splitting encapsulated keel and re-build it, ensure the integrity of the integral water and fuel tanks so the contents don't mix or let in seawater and you've got a proper blue-water yacht.!!! (y);) ... lol

PS: posted in the interests of balance. ;)

The Jouet 24, going by sailboat data stats looks to be a slightly larger Sonata. I'd be checking that they can hove to OK, but other than that I'm sure they would give an enjoyable sailing experience. Looking at its hull profile, there is limited, if any, turn in the bilge to provide primary hull stability so I would presume she'd heal over a fair old way before getting into her groove.

Never sailed (or seen) one so couldn't comment on it's build quality.

I had a Kelt 8mtr for a few years, don't remember ever being upside down in that - and I confess to "kissing" the bottom a few times when I left it a bit late getting back to my mooring :p

It was a cracking little boat, so maneuverable.

Any clues as to the type of sailing programme you envisage (day sailing, weekending, etc ) ?

or budget?
most likely a few days cruising the rias nothing too strenuous ancouring and occasional marina stopovers. The budget is small about 12 000 euros .Even a toa tal wreak is asking 6000 euros. The only place to keep a boat as we live far from the sea is a marina which works out at 2000euros a year in say Cangas.Good boat for us would be a 7 meter boat with an outboard

How about this boat ? A bit bigger, inboard engine, and slightly over budget, but maybe they’d accept an offer

ASTRAEA 260, 14.000 € | iNautia.com

Yes there is a Jouet26 in the ria de Vigo so no delivery problems but higher mooring fees a good thing is it apparently has a new engine……..would be more comfortable and allow for longer periods aboard, will probably go to Vigo and have a look at 12000 maybe a offer of 10000 ¿
