Hi

Call me stupid, (not all together). A little bit of legality that I do not understand. I understand that if I want to take my boat across to france and onto the canals I require a "Cevni" yet I can drive over and rent a boat on the canal, no paperwork just half an hour shwing me the "Ropes" and away I can go.
Whos having a laugh.

Obviously a sop to the "bumper" boat hirers. The hire companies would suffer if they made everybody do a test. But private boat owners...............well fair game intit.

ah, but... You are legally only allowed to hire a canal boat with limited (very limited) engine power ,I am not sure what the power allowance is set at but it equates to about max 4 knots ,therefore if you look at the hire boats areas you will see that they are only in areas with low water flows -wouldn't fancy taking one of those hire boats up the Rhone.
