Freezer box style evaporator plates

I have a Frigiboat fridge on the boat, with the freezer box style evaporator. The freezer box has a little flap that can be used to close the box.

Will the evaporator have more cooling effect if the freezer box is left open I.e. the inside of the box is exposed as well as the outside?

I assume this box resides within the overall fridge.

If so the fridge may get to temperature a bit faster, but the overall cooling effect will not increase. The box may be more prone to forming ice. If there is an ice layer this will reduce the cooling effect because Ice is quite and effective insulator.

We have one like that and it’s great for making ice cubes. AFIK, the laws of physics means it won’t matter as long as the fridge door is closed.
