I·m new on here, having before always owned sailing boats, being retired and now a little tired, pulling on ropes,,,,yes it·s possible to have electric winches but I want to go further up the rivers and canals in europe,
So my question is, any one experience of a Freeman 33 as I am thinking this will be my next boat,
Always liked the build and looks,,,plus it·s big enough to live on full time, but need info, on the down side or up side in owning a Freeman,
or just any plain straight comments,

Thanks

or just any plain straight comments,

Always seemed just that little bit better put together than my P33

If thats around your budget then you wont go far wrong, but a boat that old will no doubt have some hull issues ie osmosis the freemans are renown for it, also consider mark 1 princess 33 on shafts, my late Father had one with mermaid 80s and was good for 14knots,it made its way down the french canals and back before my dad owned it.

Asfor the freeman some had 120 naturally aspirated sabres and some had the 150 turbos that smoked very heavy when cold, id go for the 120s aft cockpit version, of which I know where there is a very nice example.

Down sides - Its an older boat and will have issues. 70's styling (could be an upside, depends on your tastes)

Upsides - The interior woodwork is to die for. Good spares backup from Sheriden Marine, considering the boats age. Better for the smaller craft, but some 'original' parts still available. An enthusiastic following and good re-sale prospects.

Many thanks to all of you,,,seems I·m on the right track,,osmosis,,well it is just normal
maintenance work like other materials,(this the attitude the americans have)

Have delt with it in the past on my sailing boats,

Tnink I·m going to enjoy being on this forum,

Just seen a birchwood 33,,,,,now which one.

No experience of the Freeman or the Princess, but very pleased with my Birchwood 33.

If you are over 6 feet tall the shower/loo is an issue as the floor slopes and movement/height is restricted and the sink is quite small pushed into the corner.
I rejected a 33 because of this, especially for long term cruising. I suppose it depends on your priorities. It was also very tired inside due to it's age. Find a good one though and I'll sure you'll be very happy with the build quality and solid feel.
The Birchwood is good on accomodation (2 loos) and space for it's size and is still a very handsome boat. Great aft deck for working the locks and to get a large table and chairs up there and enjoy the view/dinner on deck
