This isn't a question, this is a solution. Peter Foerthmann, designer of the Pacific Plus Wind Pilot, asked me to make a little video clip of our solution to our seized Pacific Plus.
Bascially we'd left ours untouched in the tropical climate for 18 months (our fault for not winterisig it correctly, but there we go, lesson learnt). The Teflon bearings inside the shaft had seized but because of the position it was stuck in we were not able to engage the gears to apply the required force to 'break' the seizure.
The solution involved getting a bracket made that sits on top of the Pacific.
I'm posting this up here should other Pacific Plus owners run into similar problems in the future.
Video clip here.
I should point out that the seizure was entirely our fault. Aside from this issue the Pacific Plus, which we bought second-hand, performed admirably on our trip from Europe to India (I was even able to use it when motorsailing after our main autopilot packed up). Simple. Solid. Definitely the best bit of kit we bought for Esper.
