Free Wifi hotspots on the coast ?

Planning an extended cruise this year South Coast to West Country, the Scillies to Brittany and then a slow cruise back.

We will mainly be anchoring and have a Wifi enabled laptop.

Does anyone know if there are many free hotspot out there ?

I was thinking of buying

Wifi range extender

(Happy if anyone recommends an alternative)

And wondered wether it is worth it ?

I am quite alergic to paying for Wifi and currently have picked up free hotspots in both our Southamption Berth and our home in Berkshire.

I wondered whether I was just "lucky" or is it getting that common ? ( I know Costa and MacDonalds are doing this so it is growing)

The 'net access won't be critical but would be nice if it's easy to do.

I have tried looking at a few of the online directories but none seem to give very usaable answers if you are not in the US.

I bought a Repeatit, as per your link, last year and cannot get it to work on my IBM laptop either in UK or Turkey - despite 2 phone calls to helpful technical adviser
