SSHHHH!!

EVERYBODY will want one! (& probably has).

A few sailors I know have this download's icon secreted about their desktop.
(Mine is in a file marked "Managerial Alternatives" inside a folder called "Confidential Clearance Required"

Brilliant little program. Try putting the boat on the eastern seabord of the US setting it on a course of 090 at five knots and watch your transatlantic progress over a few weeks. Or put the speed at 165 knots and set 180M from the Needles and see how quickly you get to Cherbourg. The solent chart is very good and I recon, having also tried the PCMaritime free demo, if I were in the market for a PC based charting system (which I'm not at the moment) I would prefer PCPlotter just because I feel more at home with it.

Re: Needs help?

HAve you installed it from the download location?

Each time you open it you have to accept/decline the conditions of use. did this window appear?

Im not sure what I done but I accepted all the terms and conditions
then loaded it. when you open the program accept the terms (there is no catch to this) then go to file and select (open/load a chart) this should take you to the file selection. Select (charts) when charts is open select (Navionics) then select either of the files One is of the solent and the other is the world. The solent Is Better.
I hope it works as Its a handy little free bee. but remember this is only a demo and not the full working program.

There is no reason why it shouldn't work its just working out how to get the thing started

Re: Needs help?

I have loaded this one fine and it works nicely on an area around Brighton - Littlehampton.
I do not appear to have the same options as Happyfish though so maybe I don't want the old sample file but something else?

Re: Needs help?

Download again. The "free" chart has been changed from Brighton area to the Solent.

After downloading you have to install it. Each time you open the application you will get a terms & Conditions window in the middle of the screen but there should be a chart (either Solent or the World Chart) it the background.

Maybe a fresh download and installation is required because a component or two is missing?

Re: Needs help?

Perhaps they have two still running at the same time on the site.

Yes, just checked, they do. One at 3.18MB with the old charts & the new at 5.22MB Try that one.

It gives GPS / Autopilot / planning etc.

Also joining the group : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gps-navigator/ can help you ....... as we have over 800 members and also commercial software guys ....

I\'ve Given up?

I can't get this bl***y thing to run. Possibly something to do with my version of Winzip. Either way I've consigned it to the dustbin and will go buy a paper chart, more reliable.

One Last Try!

Can anyone send me a chart of the Solent, covering Hamble to the Owers that I can get some Lat/Longs off for w/points?

I've suffered enough trying to get "free" d/loads, my hair has gone grey, nerves are shot, I now have a distinct hatered of this computor and anything electronic!!

Where's that Scotch bottle, or gun either will do?

Try this. Posted a little while back. Just zoom in on Solent and take lat/long from the chart

Its a crap demo - sorry but true

The full package looks as though it could be good, but a) its stuck with Nav Gold Charts only, b) is too proprietary for the price and not enough variation.

Yes with Seaclear I LOSE tidal / current data use, but I gain in ease of use and also free of charge. I can use scans, BSB's, Ozi Maps, NOS / Geo etc.

Sorry but I looked at PC Plotter, ran it for 2 minutes and deleted it .....

You would be better of IF YOU MUST PAY MONEY .... going for a more recognised package ......
BUT that is my HONEST PERSONAL opinion and not to be taken out of context and DOES NOT represent the views of the GPS Nav group.

Re: One Last Try!

Okay, saw your post on scuttlebutt about zooming in on Solent. It isn't hard, honestly.
goto the site again, then below the chart at left at + an - buttons. Press the minus button, perhaps twice, and let the screen reload. then you can see UK?

Position your mouse on Isle of Wight and click left mouse button, then press + button, until zoomed in. You can reposition the chart by putting mouse on where you want to centre chart and left clicking mouse. Zoom in and out to your hearts content, repositioning by using mouse and left clicking

There's a lot more function there, but that's the simple way. Most web designers tend to take that sort of knowledge for granted these days. Where are you based? quite happy to spend an evening showing you how to use these things.
Once you've got used to conventions, it's not difficult to work out how most sites work

Re: Gps Nav group

Nigel- I must be a bit slow this morning 'cos trying to get into the Yahoo group is like trying to get into Ft Knox. I was a member, but I changed my email address, so now it doesn't recognise me and I'm b&*^%$^d if I can figure out how to get back in.

Any way, my problem is this: I'm trying to xfr routes from Maptech on HP Laptop to Garmin 176. When I press <send>, the GPS says 'xfr complete', but I can't find anything in it. If I xfr routes from GPS to Maptech, it works.
When using GPSUtility, xfrs are fine both ways. What am I doing wrong?
