Hi,

I've seen a couple of discussions on here regarding staying in touch whilst long term cruising. I've just been out to the costa del sol on holiday and thought i'd share an observation.

I have an o2 pay as you go mobile phone which gives me free WAP in the UK - i'm on the "original" tariff but i notice they still do tariffs with free WAP even if you have to top up a certain amount every so often. I use this SIM with a nokia 7650 - although anything with WAP will do - even a data card if you want to use a laptop.

The main observation i made was that WAP was not charged when i'm abroad - in addition it still worked when my credit reached 0. Now you can't really do "proper" email with WAP but you can send and receive emails through a gateway (i run a free one at wapmail.dorada.org but there are many others.

This would seem like a pretty cost effective option - even if you end up "having" to top up £10 a month.

Regards,

Daniel

Hi
Just been to Ibiza and got a text from O2 (Ireland) saying WAP is now charged at 5c per kb whilst roaming- it wasn't before.
I don't know whether the same has happened in the UK but may be worth checking.
Cheers

Do you sell or distribute in any way the information users register with you? I note you don't have a privacy policy.............
