Free Cruising Book

Thanks for the kind words, and I think adding an epilogue related to each book of the trilogy is a good idea. I will work on that as soon as my schedule allows. After any changes the entire text has to be converted to HTML again, then that has to be converted into an eBook before being re uploaded to Kindle. When the change is done I will let you know and you can get an updated version from Kindle.
I really appreciate the input. An author’s own eyes are poor editors and are often blind to seemingly obvious shortcomings.
If you hadn’t read the first paragraph of the Preface (copy below) before reading the book, I imagine the stop in Colon could be a bit of a surprise.

(Preface.
If you ever thought about getting a boat and sailing away: Here is the first part of the story of a family sailing their boat from San Francisco to the North-East Coast of England and back. This book, the first of a trilogy, spans eight countries and covers their adventures from San Francisco to Colon at the Caribbean end of the Panama Canal.--------------- etc. etc.)

I am well along with the second book of the trilogy that covers sailing from Colon Panama, to Whitby.

Harvey.

Review

When I lived in England in the sixties, I kept my Folkboat in Whitby. Way back when the fishermen were gentlemen and before the marina.
I'm starved for reviews, so now that you have a more complete picture, how about doing one for me, I would really appreciate it. It only requires a minimum of twenty words.
I'm just arriving at Bermuda in the second book.

Hello again Simon,
You will be getting an email from Kindle on how to obtain my book with a new chapter-length postscript. In response to your suggestion, the addition links this first book with the rest of the trilogy, which is not yet published, and gives some insight into the family’s return to normal life.
After some thought, I could see that you were right, thank you for your input. I hope that you will now feel that you can write that review.
Regards, Harvey.

Book update.

Hello again Simon,
After all this time I am still trying to get Kindle to take care of business. They were supposed to send out a mass email to all my book owners informing them about the update, and told me that they had done so, but they seem to have trouble running their own system. Some people had their book automatically updated and some did not, but nobody got an email.
Next they told me that they had sent out a new mass email, but when I checked with the few owners I actually know, I found that they didn’t get it again. Kindle claimed that they must have lost it in their Spam Blocker, but some of the owners that I know personally are computer professionals, so that is unlikely.
Now the latest is that people who got an automatic update will not get an email informing them about it. If you have not received an email, will you please have a look at your copy of the book to see if it has been updated? The most obvious update is an additional chapter entitled Postscript. Thanks for your patience,
Regards, Harvey

Hi Simon, it’s nice to hear that you finally got the book update. I don’t see your review on my Amazon book site yet, it turns out that Kindle are not the easiest people to deal with. You will soon have a new sailing season; I hope you get a good summer this year. Here in San Diego the sailing season is continuous but the natives still think of winter as winter. They have ‘Frostbite’ races with temperatures in the seventies.

You are months and months too late for a free book, but if you don't want to buy it you can borrow it free it you own a kindle. Enjoy your boat, it looks like a nice one.

D'oh! Didn't read the dates properly. Don't have a kindle device, but I will add the book to my reading list.
Thanks for the comment on my boat; already managed some trips this season. I'm hoping we get a summer this year...

You can download Kindle for PC or Kindle for Mac and quite a few other devices, free. They are not very big progams and it only takes a couple of minutes. You would be amazed how nice a basic Kindle is to use. I think that the basic one is the best.
