Navionics are available on line (and a quick check shows they're more up to date for the Solent at least)...

Thanks Sailorman. They appear to be worldwide, but are sketchy close in (more so outside the English Channel) and somewhat out of date, also of course you need wifi coverage to access them. But never look a gift horse in the mouth. I've bookmarked this site, it might come in handy for general planning.
