Free chart-plotting/AIS programmes for Toughbook

Tried that, no joy, losing the will to live here!!!!

Hi Tim

Have you used "C:\Program Files\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe /no_opengl" exactly like that and in inverted commas in the Target box? You can even copy and paste it from this post.

What happens when you do that and Apply it then OK and then start OpenCPN using that modified shortcut?

Do you get the same error message?

Ok, this is what I get if I right click on the shortcut and go to properties

I've tried changing the Target....is that what you mean by command line? It just says invalid file path......

What I think you should do is edit the line that says
Code:
C:\Program Files\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe
to
Code:
C:\Program Files\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe /no_opengl
then press OK and try to run the program as usual.

I dont know why but the forum software keeps messing with what we're (I'm) trying to write - for some reason opencpn dot exe keeps getting dropped from the text. In the target line add (space)/no_opengl at the end but before the closing double quote - I dont seem to be able write it out as it should be and have that display correctly

Yes, tried that, typing it out and cutting and pasting from Richards post above.....same error message

Richard has edited his post as he got the directory wrong and its still missing the opencpn dot exe part when I look at his post. However having had a read of the link GHA posted to CruisersForum (where the real support for OpenCPN is) we may well be wasting our time and you'll need to try and revert to an earlier version or move the chart files to your other machine to run 4.4 - sorry

That is indeed very strange Robbie. When I look at my post #22 I see exactly the same path as the second one in your post #24.

See my question in the feedback forum http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?470048-Is-there-a-way. What I'm seeing must be affected by adblocker or Stylish or perhaps Chromium on Mint has something else built in thats messing with the display - I'll have to do some googling

EDIT: It seems to be adblock that removes the dot exe bits of text

Ahhh .... I used to use AdBlock but I changed to uBlock some months ago and that doesn't seem to hide the .exe (dot exe) filenames. I didn't know that before now though. :)

OK so I downgraded back to 4.0 and it runs ok......up to the point at which it completely freezes, and needs a reboot of the laptop! Maybe it's just overwhelming the processor on the old tough book.

Perhaps I need a rethink!
