There was a programme on tv last year or so back about this. Really interesting, and caused huge thread on scuttlebutt. For some reason, all the news agencies seem to have picked up on it this week????? and as a result have been about 3 threads on the subject in the past few days

Well I've been away so missed them. Sorry if this has been already done.
Are you at the wheelwrights tomorrow?

Do a search for the orignal thread. Interesting stuff, and have been several other over past year with some really wonderful photos of waves at sea.

Yes at wheelwrights tomorrow.

Try being about 90miles north of Iceland in December during a hurricane!!! The weather and sea managed to bend the bow of a 4500 ton Warship up 18inches with just one big wave!!! the wave that hit us was estimated by a fulll Naval Captain at over 120ft!!! I was damage control party, and saw the havock and damage caused, no reason to dispute his estimate!!!! First and only real time I was truly frightened on a big ship at sea!!

Just right for Brendan

You'll have him waiting at Hurst Pount waiting to surf up the Solent on one of those.

I think Yarmouth would be under water. I suggest you get an extra high dry-rack specially made for you.

Re: Just right for Brendan

No, if the wave came in from West, then Yarmouth more protected than any where else by high headland to West. Also quick easy access, can get in there in a few minutes it you ignore the speed limits, and be up somewhere under the bridge in no time at 44 knts through the harbour.

Wouldn't want to be on Northern side of Solent, as the wave would have to come from SW direction

Re: Just right for Brendan

That;s why I'd be up the river under bridge, well protected from surge byu several bends and piles.. as I said, can be there in minutes at 44 knts, and worry about being told off from harbour master later on.

I rather not take it head on, as someone on scuttlebutt pointed out that large military vessel got pointy bit bent more than a few degrees upwards in a big wave

I'd rather do what deep water raggies do, and go through huge waves, and rely on bouyancy to bring you up the other side without a huge pounding! <g>

Didn't I post earlier in the thread about amazing photos posted in the past year. I see you've found them! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif...but I thought it might bore people if I posted them for the trillionth time. It's a bit like walking into the office and announcing you've found this really cool new show on TV, called Coronation Street, and everyone really, really has to see it, cos it's great?

eg here

and the pictures themselves, rather than the website, more times than I care to count
