I’ve come across a nifty bit of software called GPSGATE that lets you connect your GPS (Garmin in my case) to your laptop or PDA and gives you your live position in Google earth or Google maps. Also lets friends track your movements on Google Earth by logging on to the web as well but I haven’t mastered that bit yet. The 14 day trial is free or you can buy the software for 9.95 euros.

It loaded first time for me and it means I can take my laptop on my boat and see my position in Google Earth. You don’t need a live web connection as you can store the Google Earth images for the area you are going to be in before hand. (You might need to set the cache in Google Earth to a bigger value, 2000 MB max)
Any one else using it?

No connection with the publishers.

Yes, use it a lot for software development and testing. Excellent product. Easy to install and use. Not used it with Google Earth though.

It's also useful if you use a PC on board and want to replicate the serial port(s) you're using for NMEA input so you can use more than one navigation program.

excellent software which I have recommended a number of times in the past. I use it to split the GPS signal to a number of different applications simultaneously.
