Apropos of a previous thread where I asked about where people would live in France... I am retiring in 3 months time, and intend going down (festina lente) to South Brittany. At the end of the season, I expect BS to be hauled out in some SBrittany marina.

Can you know-alls give me some prices for overnighting (for the summer) and overwintering. If you could say euros/metre, and rate facilities and environment, each on scales of 1 to 5, would be v helpful.

Good choice ! South Brittany is a sailor paradise.
Do you read French ? if so go to : www.sagemor.fr (you'll find information and fares for all Morbihan marinas).
It seems that quite a lot of forumites intend to cruise the area next summer :
I'll do a kind of "ports of call guide" and post it as soon as possible (fortunately you are on an extended cruise : there's a lot to be seen between Alderney & La Rochelle and North-West Spain will be on your doorstep...)
PM if you have trouble with French.

You could try the Villaine river - La Roche Bernard. This is a really pretty river that has been dammed. Not suitable for weekenders like me becasue of restricted access of the dam, but for someone as a base living there - it is probably one of the cheaper areas on that coast. Last year 2002 I managed to get a swinging mooring. However the waiting list for pontoons is not too long. Up river in Redon it is even cheaper still, and probably some pontoons free.

Good yard for over wintering - but prices have risen as the Brits have taken over! about €700 for October to end march. I think.

Most other marionas now have a waiting list - and July August is now quite expensive on a monthly basis.

My marina was being doubled in size over the winter : Loquemiquélic nr Lorient. For my 30 footer, I pay under £1000/yr including electricity, water, showers and reciprocal arrangements with other Sagemor marinas ( approx 12). When I last enquired there were available places.
