Looking at - hopefully - simplier diesels, non turbo, 6 cylinder, 150hp ish, I noted that Lancing Marine sold FPT diesels which matched the description. I'd never heard of FPT, did a search here, found it was Italian, and their 6.7L version could be what I needed in the long term. Looking further, these seem to be IVECO blocks, but potentially also made in China. Lancing sell them as bobtails, there's some mention of keelcoolong option, but I'm guessing there's very few in the UK. Anybody actually got one of these?
(I have an Aquastar 38 currently with twin 6BTA's Cummins, 250hp, turbo and aftercoolers, working well but too fast for what I want and getting long in the tooth, being over 30 years old. I'm thinking longterm, use would be sea crossings from NE Essex and hopefully some smaller/slower/weedier canals, but also upper Thames and Broads. Boat nicely fits the dimensions needed re height depth etc. Vetus have a similar spec Deutz engine, and Beta do mention a similar one for commercial use only, but I think that also may be a marinisation of an IVECO).
