Foulweather gear. Which is best.

Have XM Offshore at a special deal of £130 from Marinestore a couple of years ago. Very good value IMHO. Musto clothing isexpensive. Just look at stuff like fleeces and tell me they're not trading on their name. I normally get Regatta fleeces from their factory outlet at Braintree and at £10-20 they are just as good as the Musto £80-90

Given the problem of disposing of old motor car tyres and your need for waterproof material I think we can all begin to see somethng of a solution here. Cutting patches from the tyres and stitching them together would give a really tough exterior however you'll have to do a lot of seam waterproofing. Probably the best method is to spin the tyres in to yarn and knit it on your wife's knitting machine this will give a lovely soft finish with really good articulation. Tip: get hold of whitewall tyres for a really funky finish!

Alternatively you could always got to the Deathlon sale and buy proper stuff for bobbins!

Reminds me of the guy who made condoms from used car tyres.

"How many do you get from a tyre?"

"Got 365 from the last one"

"Must have been a Good Year"

Maybe the biggest issue is fit/comfort. I tried on loads of different brands and ended up with Musto because they have a good high collar/face guard, snug round the neck, no digging in bits, good pockets - just feel comfortable. I got womens jacket but mens trs as they're longer in the leg. We got different colours for HWMBO and me so that we can easily spot which is whose ... and we're very happy with our choice. So try lots on, in shops and boats shows, decide which feel best for you, then buy on-line ...

Yes I bought XM Ocean back in february the entire thing was rediculously cheap and having priced it on Ebay etc. I bought from Aladins cave at Burseldon.

All breathable with the reinforcement in all the same places as Musto, the fabric is all from (I think) Cortholds. I bought it to do a delivery to Lanzarotti in Feb and I recon the only difference between mine and Musto is the very small label and a few hundred quid. I think I paid about £190 for mine

And obviously, the tin foil acts as a radar reflector - as a lining perhaps, althougfh you would rustle, or maybe across the shoulders to act as a light reflector for those night time man overbvoard exercises. During fog you would have to climb up the mast so maybe you now need a cheap bosun's chair and a way of adapting the kids RC car to work as remote steering.
Why not ask the local vet for some of his extra long rubber gloves. 4 of those + a condom would keep the inportant bits dry.

Is the Tin foil to stop the thought police??? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I always think a serious question deserves a serious answer. Academic research on the very subject HERE.

I have always used Musto, found them to be good fit and great quality/durability. I have a Musto drysuit, must be about 5 years old, still going great. My Musto inshore trousers and jacket I used to use on the RIB in all seasons. Although they are still fine, I have now outgrown them, so last year upgraded to MPX jacket and trousers. This is a very expensive kit, however they are superbly comfortable and warm, and I really love them. They should also last for quite a while. However, if you do not want to spend that much, I used my Musto inshores for 6 years, all-year round speeding in a RIB (which can get very cold and wet!), and I still use them as general waterproofs, when I do not need the full protection on my MPX's.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Declaration of Independence ....

I must declare that I detect a certain comedy here and in some posts ....

Please note that my ID being mimicked as "Chump" has nothing to do with me and even I cannot apsire to bin-liner and tin-foil for foul-weather gear .....

For me I have had all-sorts of breathable etc. over years and decided to cut costs - bought Regatta gear at huge savings over "designer" stuff ....
