Well the first meeting of Wash sailors went ahead and I personally think it was a very enjoyable get together, with a chance to meet old mates and make some new ones.
First to arrive was, well, not me
On arrival at The Ship Inn, Fosdyke, Jkay with family and ggt were already there (I had to escape from a family birthday so that's my excuse )

After a short while, Tim & Liz from YBW joined us by car, the tide was still low so we weren't expecting anyone else for ages

Just had time to finish my pint though, when someone said some boats were coming in

with the tide at this stage it's often quite entertaining to watch someone coming in, so we went for a look just in case they needed a hand : and sure enough, Ken had to be one of them

missed out on pic's of Alex and crew on Runic but we soon got to know each other at the bar, along with everyone else

think Joe was moving in

then Ken joined him and it looked like they were both stopping the night

then we decided to take over the bar area too

while mini Jkay and Tikaani decided it was time for a rest

and as I like to be different, I have one of the smallest boats, but with the biggest YBW forum burgee (Thanks Richard)

Very enjoyable evening folks, good to meet new and old freinds, and hope to make this a regular Wash venue. Food cheep and cheerful, and I think plenty of it ?
Any feedback I can pass to the landlord would be great too

5 knots in a channel ????

I have actually had a good luck at doing this trip from the Blackwater. It is clearly very (as in VERY) tide dependent but my question relates to how much water there is in the channel (Welland Cut / River Welland) up to Fosdyke Bridge. My charts aren't detailed enough to show chart datum, and a big dollop of local knowledge would certainly come in handy and be more useful I'm sure anyway. I draw 1.9m. Can anyone help ?

The other thing, is any thoughts on a date for next year ? - get it in the ECF calendar and make it a permanent feature thereof ?.

Alan, I'll catch you on MSN when we get a chance and I'll send you the charts for the area so you can see what it's like for yourself, but the problem is, as usual, the bar. Why does a bar always have to get in the way ?
Coming into The Wash from down there you do see plenty of water underneath, but when you enter Freeman Channel you're best off dropping the hook at Clay Hole and waiting for high tide there. I'll leave those more experienced to give better detail, but the bar is between Clay Hole and the Boston Channel. Not a lot of room to play compared to where you are, it's more like the channel from Bradwell to open water, but a whole lot longer and very deceptive. We ran aground on a bit of the bar that sticks into the channel, only a couple of hours after high, and we draw 0.7M. You don't want to do that so I would suggest crossing at high only.
Ken has a 10HP and at full throttle he was hardly moving against the flow, Alex was showing off when he reversed into position
Tim suggested that as The Ship Inn has only recently started trading again, and does seem to be more like the local boat club rather than just a pub, we may like to support it more often than once a year. So I'll plan another get together and see how things go. If you fancy coming along, Sixpence is at your disposal for somewhere to lay your head at the end of the night
