After 10yrs of not owning a yacht, I'm looking to get another boat, but now located on the East coast....

Anyone got any experience of using Fosdyke as a base from the sea side? I'm going to contact the Marina, but would value an independent view as well...

I understand that the Welland is navigable for about 3 hrs either side of HW, but what is the max draft that is realistic? and whats the 6 Mile hike up the river like?

Are there any sensible staging points in event of problems?, or is it a single shot run between Tabs head and Fosdyke?

Are there any air draft problems?

I have had boats at Fosdyke for a few years now. You will need to take the ground at the marina, the pontoons sit on the bottom most low tides.
The bottom does have debri scattered so expect gel coat repairs at some stage.
The run from Tabs head is fine as long as you remember to concentrate at night or times of low vis as the rock walls are covered on reasonable tides.
There are reasonable lights all along there but with basic sticks between, as the marina used to be a working dock they have to by law keep the water way maintained re lights and so on.
There's a stone jetty a couple of miles down stream from the bridge which you can use as a stop gap should the need arise.
Taking the ground is the key to the whole Wash area because then the pressure is off and it is a wonderful place in the spring through to summer.
The bridge next to the marina has around 14ft air draft with 10 draft re my old trawler and getting through.
The pub is open all hours the noise from the A17 is constant.
I'm not sure what maintainance staff they have there but there's a posh boat lift and sheds.
