rum pirate posted a thread "which" to which brendan and others (incl me) responded. You can see these responses if you click on runpirates profile, and then ask for a flat thread. But, in curennt format on SB, all the reponses have gorn, it seems, and replced by some others. Wot is going on?
 
I keep finding replies on threads that bear no realtion to the threads, and they're not from Das Boot.
I thought it was me going do-lally
 
Bolt Croppers and rigging

I think the problem with bolt croppers and wire rigging is that the wire can get between the blades leading to them not working properly, perhaps best cutting attachments rather than the wire?

Thats probably going to work but if you keep tensioning the backstay it will affect the balance. You may need to shorten the forestay.
 
Cats vs Mono which should I buy?

Oh god here we go again. I will say it one more time, cruising cats are intentionally under canvassed so the risk of capsize is minimal, unlike a monohull which will be pulled to the bottom by the 4 tonnes of lead you drag around wherever you go.
 
Starting out. Suggestions please!

You'll not go far wrong with the Hurley in my admittedly outrageously biased opinion.

I know nothing of the others beyond their reputations but the Jaguar seems the odd one out on your short-list being more modern, beamier and perhaps slightly flightier than the others. The Corribee's excellent reputation is not hindered by being Ellen's choice for her Round Britain trip. The Elizabethan is much heavier and very pretty as you say. The Hurley is slightly heavier still and slightly prettier too IMO. There were also more of them built which should make finding a good one easier.

If you've googled for info you'll probably have come across the Hurley Owners Association and the Yahoo group already. Silkie is a long fin keel but I'm happy to try to answer any questions you may have.

Cache got all messed up

There was a problem where pages weren't caching properly which only came to a head after we turned on the RSS feeds yesterday (everyone's browers were refreshing every five minutes at precisely the same time as all the feeds were generated which caused the database to smoke a bit).

Apologies - should be sorted now.

Simple. Its just like school dinners. Remember how feeding 1000 barely human humanoids used to cause the kitchen staff to smoke a bit. And you got custard instead of gravy on the roast dog? well its the same with Kim's feeds. with the same result.

What makes you think this would help long range reception? A good earth is the main consideration IMO.

The "X" is flown at the squirrel end, with the orange and the chocolate biscuit 'emblem' in the far corner or 'wheeft' as it is known. As you will know, it is only to be flown when entering Dognot Harbour under licence, at Springs and with the prevailing wind over the right shoulder.

I know, I know . . EuroRegs have indeed forced a change to the background (or chrysalis) colour, but the so-called slodge is still purple in summer and pink in winter. (Pink = red, of course). There is a more complete explanation (and a sequence of photographs) in "Old Grannie's Book of Practical Flagging" (Coles, 1954).
