Forum search - what\'s wrong

Searches now fail to find things I know I've read ... maybe this has been discussed before but what is wrong? Google certainly understands searching. So why so few results? It used to be really useful before, if slow.
EG I know I've read about baking bread with a Cobb BBQ. Searched. Ziltch.

Wouldn't bother with it. Use google and put "www.ybw.com/forums" in as the domain. works OK as long as someone doesn't have your search string within their password!

Re: Forum search - what\'s wrong

I agree. An advanced search from Google often seems to give better reults. Still wont find anything in the lounge though.

Re: Forum search - what\'s wrong

Google is the default search engine, and it only gives results bnased on it's own algorithms. Don't expect any decent results for anythinhg more than a few months old.

Re: Forum search - what\'s wrong

Thanks for that. Tried Alta Vista and got a bit more. But why did the old forum search engine get dropped? - you could eventually find anything there and it was good browsing. Meanwhile I'll just ask again about making bread in a Cobb...

Re: Forum search - what\'s wrong

The search engine was affecting forum perfomance, and we were given the option of no serch engine and improved performance, or carry on struggling with the old search engine in place. So, the fact that a search engine is there at all is something of a bonus.

Later this year, the mods have suggested that there will be a totally new forum software, which hopefully will have a decent search engine, and they are also moving the current software to new servers which should help speed things up

[/ QUOTE ] Type Cobb into the search and you'll get a number of results some of which give links to other sites including a camping one and a Cobb forum.

What you are actually looking for could have been in the Lounge. The Google search will not find anything there
