Fantastic information, thank you! We draw 1.2m with the keel up. Having looked at Google Earth, Navionics, and our plotter, I'm chickening out of the idea of trying it tbh. Maybe wait until Bob Bradfield has been in there and added it to Antares.
If we make it to Gruinard I'll certainly give you a shout- although it could be a rather early/tame evening given we have a two year old in tow, and you may not enjoy having him inflicted upon you :D

I'm a grandparent....
2 year olds can be accommodated;)

Keep in touch, I'm around all day on 07707 117770 and won't be out tomorrow night.
If it's a fine warm afternoon/evening a blether on the moorings and/or come up to the house.

Follow ctva's advice re anchoring in Mill Bay - between Khamsin and the rocks of the point to the north. But with 1.2m draft you should be ok just about anywhere around Khamsin.

A good anchorage in all winds other than a screaming northerly, when you should think of being tucked-in by the stony spit on Gruinard Island. Southwest side of the spit, not the northeast - VERY shallow there.
Stony bottom, so need a good anchor

Aaaaarrrgggghhh, an anchor drift !!

...Same offer applies for a shower, but the gin has run low...…....

We’re on short rations too...sitting in Loch Scresort running out of tonic.

You started it.

Kelpie, if you visit just don’t mention an#&@ring. :)

Chris, drink your gin Navy style - with a dribble of water! :drunk:

I bet Kelpie hasn't got a Rocna! But he'd be better off with a Bruce, anyway :p

SWMBO has decreed that we must spend at least some of today at a beach, so we're heading for Loch Ewe where there are a couple of possibilities. Sun is absolutely blazing now. Taps aff weather. Means we will probably skip past Gruinard on this leg, but maybe stop in on the way back. So Robert will be spared the little guy's tantrums (he's very opinionated about certain things, I daren't ask him his thoughts on anchors).

P.S. The 4G coverage on the west coast now is amazing. Sitting writing this on the laptop half way between Skye and the mainland.

I can recommend Firemore Beach n the west side of the loch. Can't say about the holding for the an*&or.
There's a good beach at Slagan on the west side of The Mellon Udrigle headland as you're going into L. Ewe, but it's exposed to westerlies.
There's a nice wee beach by Mellon Charles (before Ormiscaig) on the east side of The Sound.
Opposite that beach, against Isle Ewe is my other mooring. It's a blue "fish farm" can with two blue warps. It hasn't been serviced for years and the warps will no doubt have a lot of weed on, but you're welcome to use it, if I'm not on it!. Very sheltered from all but a screaming northerly.

Keep in touch and I look forward to hosting the wee fella on your way back, if you're coming this way.

Now look what you've started Chris...………….. :nightmare:
Moi?
Rocna, Rocna, Bruce, Spade.... :)

Definitely. In Poll nam Partan on Eigg just now and we are on BT with the phones which are getting 4G all over the place. I’d actually say that we are surprised if we don’t have it now. Fantastic for getting the Inshore Waters forecast and the synoptic charts from Magic Seaweed, not forgetting keeping up to date with YBW. We even got 4G to about 10+ miles out to St Kilda. My works Vodaphone is ok but not as good as BT.

And another YBW get-together at Mill Bay/Second Coast.
Mr "Angus McDoon" motored gently into my anchorage yesterday afternoon and hooked-up (just !! ;)) to my unoccupied mooring.
There followed a very enjoyable natter until it was time to repair to my house for John to enjoy a shower and a convivial supper.
I hope John enjoyed the day as much as I did.
I am extremely impressed at "Angus McDoon's" cruising distance and destinations to date since purchase !

He's still moored in the Bay below as I type, waiting no doubt for some wind. Perhaps he didn't set his alarm.....

Long may these YBW meet-ups continue. They could become a separate Forum!!

Thank you very much Robert for your hospitality last night. Single handed sailing around this part of the world it can be days or sometimes weeks without really talking to anyone (or a shower :-), so it made an enjoyable change last night to have company.

I can hear the wind rising, so after a second cup of tea it's time to get up* & scurry off somewhere before the weather arrives later today.

* I'm not usually this much of a bed hog, but I've taken tips from an old dog I met last night.

You obviously like Angus more than me as you let him use your mooring while we had to anchor... hurumph. :)

You'll be getting an entry in Welcome Anchorages next...

Black dog, or sea dog? ;)
I shouted to you from the beach around 08:30 - but no sight nor sound of life about aboard. I suppose I did right by not rowing out to check on you!!! Probably at your chart table engrossed in the perils of navigating all the way to Ullapool...….

Fair winds and kind waters to you.

You timed it wrong, another few days and Khamsin would have been away.

She'll be back next week, I hope, so for the next visitors it'll be dropping the hook into that perfect holding sand!

Slaintè mhar

There's only one anchor suitable for Scottish waters, Knox of course. Made of proper Scottish grdrs.

Suitable for elsewhere too. I've had one of these Knox things for 2 weeks now and anchored every night. Once it didn't set first go but otherwise the only danger is to the windlass as I try to get it out. Steady 45 knots one night so pretty impressed. And I've had the forum burgee up but no visitors from this place during the cruise.
I'm in the Ionian so apologies for the thread drift!
