Forum meetings

Great stuff Mike - not sorted all my pictures out yet. However, here is one from those of us that continued the party another day /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It was a beautiful anchorage - you should have stopped by on your way past, even if just for an hour or two /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It was a great few days, improved by great company /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Far too many steps, but well worth it in the end. Wish I'd done it to get a photo of the raft!

The rest of them had headed off to Beaucette - but we'd already done that and couldnt resist the temptation to stay the night and have a scramble ashore in the morning. 'Wow' doesnt begin to sum it up!

Duncan - we weren't in Poole at all, so I guess it was most likely the one from Cobbs Quay?

Nice bit of DIY on the aerial in the last picture Mike

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes Nick

Though not DIY - I've been trying out AIS - this was my temporary antenna - gone now.
I wanted to see how useful AIS was during a cross channel passage.
It's quite good really - you get to know about all the major shipping long before the radar and MARPA sees it. SWMBO used it and thought it was helpfull.
It isnt a replacement for anything - just an additional bit of information.
Now that Ive done the test I will be considering it for fitting to the next boat.

In fact, I am now thinking that a fixed PC, permanently fitted is now the way forward - not for actual "under way" navigation but as a passage planning tool and then as a parallel monitoring system - there's also loads of other uses for a fixed PC at the helm - IMHO.

Isn't it manmade? I think I read somewhere that it was originally a quarry.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, you're dead right there. In the marina office there are pictures on the wall (black & white) showing how they blasted the entrance out making the quarry into a marina.

It was my first time over there and certainly a first for Beaucette! It's every bit as described and no disappointment at the entrance, really tight through vertical rocks and followed by a hairpin turn. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I would recommend brown corduroys to anyone visiting for the first time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Even if you're following something much larger, it still makes you wonder if you can get through this tiny hole in the wall. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Take a look here

Happy Birthday Roger /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif If you think Beaucette is tight, try the gates at Perros Guirec - 6metres wide and quite a bit of current when they first open. That was definitely brown-trousers!

Dont be put off by Roger's comments.
It's a great place to visit.
Roger followed us all in so he had the luxury of knowing that it can be done.

If you visit on your own, you have to call the marina anyway on the VHF for clearance to enter/leave - if you havent visited before, the harbourmaster (normally Neil himself) will come out in a dinghy and escort you in - piece of cake and definately worth a visit.

Morning Roger
Happy Birthday, I'm sure there will be an opportunity for a light refreshment for celebration purposes over the coming weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Weather is again looking very promising /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hi Brendan
I tried to encourage the other guys all day to go ashore and climb loads of steps but they were having none of it /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

They just seemed to want to sit in my saloon and watch the F1 racing

Maybe next time /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hi Rick
Thats a great picture and I'm sure well worth the climb. The Wokingham raft would have looked good from up there. Perhaps if we do it again we could get you to climb up again while we all wave /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What an excuse to do it all again and this time maybe AdrianB will have enough time to hang around for the raft too! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
