Forum double standards !!

We kunnen natuurlijk in het Nederlands overnemen. Onze Zuid-Afrikaanse vriend zal het wel begrijpen, en de Britten, ach ja...

Going to be difficult for Kim & Co to keep control of this setup!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Not really. Kim knows if anyone oversteps boundaries, there is the notify moderator button, and that people do actually read all this stuff. Better than a horde of moderators in effectiveness

For instance, what Westhinder said is quite innocuous. Rough translation
"We can of course in Dutch take over. Our South African friend will understand it, and in Britain, ah!

And the verdict is???

So what's the verdict....

English only or a hybrid? Or shall we create a special forum "pigeon" English.

Oh and no more castigating those of us who may want to use our another tongue very occasionally when on here.

Funny thing is that I was reading a certain article a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was written by a very young child (full of grammar and spelling mistakes) but was surprised at the intelectual content at hte same time.

Turned out to be a South-African article and never realised how close it is to Dutch
! Anyway, it looks good on my CV, since I just added an additional line under "languages". I can read and understand Zuid-Afrikaans perfectly! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Perhaps in due time I can master the Scottish language too so keep writing those too. Welsh is still a over my head.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

De groeten an ieder en 1

Re: And the verdict is???

I'd suggest replying to any Jockanese dialect in Afrikaans, Jimi seems fluent and if you ask me it's more intelligible than Glaswegian, to an Englishman anyway! As an immigrant in SA (Vanderbijlpark) in the 70's we were amused by some locals' attempts to talk about us in Afrikaans, I think they were under the impression that we couldn't understand what "Englisher swein-hond" meant. They were a bit non-plussed when the Welsh speakers joined in!
