Ok, it's been a while since Whitelighter posted his boat purchase suggestions, so I thought to make a rather peculiar one.
The boat, a 42 footer, looks in great shape for a 2008 build, has just a hundred hours on the engines, and with an asking price of less than a hundred grands she's probably at less than 20% of what you should pay for an equivalent new one.

So, where's the catch, I hear you saying? No catch, but I told you she's peculiar...!
Ladies and gents, here's the beast: a Cigarette 42X, with staggered 1075hp Merc Racing engines and #6 surface outdrives, no less.
Probably good for speeds in excess of 120mph, I would guess.
Being sold by a bank, and already UK flagged. What's there not to like?

Please, form an orderly queue by posting your subscriptions below...

Intermare is the name of the builder, but to go as fast as with the Cig you should drop her from an airplane... :D

@ Pinnacle: Why P, can't you see the pics?
The website from where I linked them is actually a bit slow, maybe it's just a matter of waiting a few seconds.
Works fine here, and I suppose also for seastoke.

Depends on your browser settings - the site's ssl cert is invalid, which means that you might find that embedded images hosted on that site have been blocked.

Sorry folks,
I did notice that the site has an invalid SSL certificate, which btw is remarkable, since it's handled by a very large bank.. .
...but I didn't think that the hyperlinked pics wouldn't show, depending on browser settings.
Anyway, you can see all pics & specs by clicking here:
Ultimate forum boat!

That's really nice :encouragement: but I imagine it falls into the 10k a weekend fuel burn catagory and so too rich for me. Still, very nice :)

That's actually a very popular, but nonetheless wrong, commonplace. These boats are VERY efficient in terms of fuel burn.
It couldn't be otherwise if you think about it, because fuel is burnt to produce power, and if you want to go fast, you must use power as efficiently as possible.
Ok, she burns petrol rather than diesel, which obviously makes a difference.
But if you consider just the consumption in terms of NMPG, I wouldn't be surprised if this animal would burn less fuel than a Targa 37 to cover a hundred miles.
Also because, conditions permitting, you can make that in one hour, as opposed to three with the Targa....

That actually makes a lot of sense until I got to the part, cover the distance in an hour. As if I or you would stop there. Once the adrenaline is buzzing and the party in full swing, I'd imagine it's very hard to stop. You may even be moved to beat off other forum members, in said Targa demanding a go, with a large stick rather than relinquish your seat.

Naaah... In any sea condition other than a mirror glass surface, after cruising for one hour at 3 digits speed, you WANT to stop.
It's not like you are going around amiably chatting with the rest of the crew and sipping a beer, you know.
The attention and fast response demanded when helming these speed demons is exhausting, particularly when the boat is rigged in such way that you can't split the job between the driver and the throttleman, as I think is the case with this one - unless the wheel can be moved to port side, 'dunno for sure...

Thats absolutely correct. the Hunton was remarkably efficient when you consider distance covered over a given time when running at 45 + kts. even opening it up to high 50's didnt make a significant difference to the fuel burn / distance covered.

Like you say, after an hour of that sort of speed you need to stop. I recall running from Southampton to Yarmouth at 55 + Kts and it took a lot of concentration and that was a much shorter time! reading the water in front, watching for other boats that appear very quickly at that speed and generally keeping the boat in the right direction are more challenging than you might expect.

increase that by a factor of 2 and you need to be super human!

Well, we already reached 50% with myself, then.
I'll see the boat next week, anyone else interested to join me in Genoa?

She does look ab fab! If it was 2000 km's north, I'd be seriously interested.

I you get a change to fire her up, please take some video :).

Just looked at the service intervals every 15 hours !!!MAINTENANCE
Interval
Task
Every 15 hours or 90 days of operation (1075 SCi Only)
Check exhaust header mounting bolts for tightness
Flame arrestor ‐ Inspect and clean as required
Engine oil and filter ‐ Change
Fuel filters ‐ Change
Check and adjust valve tip clearance (lash)
Thats not going to be cheap running
