Obtaining a factory stowaway bag (SFX11) for a Fortress anchor is damned difficult here in the Uk, and expensive too I anticipate.

Much cheaper in the USA ($43) but every link so far indicates a ridiculous postage cost of $80- $110. This is just for the bag, I stress, not the anchor too!

I've shipped heavy(ish) stuff from the States previously and after much research found shipping of around $30 but no success on this one so far- so the question is has anyone found a source of these bags where the shipping is sub $40?

I made my own from a bit of acrylic material left over from making our bimini. The thing only took about 3/4 hour to make (using our hand-operated Singer aboard) and I made it large enough to take a basic amount of permanently fitted chain too. The latter makes it pretty heavy though, so I also fitted the bag with webbing lifting handles to make it easier.

Cost next to nothing and works beautifully with a drawstring top for easy release.

I had a strong heavy plastic mesh bag, with a drawstring made up for my current (smallish) kedge anchor and chain-rope rode, which works very well as it allows drainage & drying, but it wasnt that cheap - about £35. I recently noticed large plastic mesh (flexible) laundry bags for sale in the Lidl catalogue for £25 which might be worth looking at -not sure of size, but they looked heavy duty & big enough for a Fortress.

Thanks, folks for the good alternative ideas I shall keep them in mind as a fall back but a very kind forumite has offered to deliver one to me in the late Autumn, which will be great.

I'd been thinking of buying a fortress as a second anchor (for a 46' sailing yacht 12.5 tonnes). Primary anchor is a 25kg CQR. I would welcome experienced feedback on these anchors. Thanks.
