Just back and was impressed by the shear size of the show. Water taxi skipper gave his little tour guide chat each morning and delighted in repeating that if you walked each pontoon you would have covered 13 miles on foot. $3.3 billion worth of yachts and X thousands of exhibitors. You would really need three or four days to see all of it.
Phew was it hot though !, 32 - 35 degrees each day. Have to hand it too the organisers very slick operation and huge resources available for build up and knock down of show. We did some sea trials after the show and our boats were stuck in the middle of a huge marina section surrounded by linked pontoons which had to be dismantled before we could get out. Twelve hours is all it took to move virutally every yacht and pontoon out of the show area, a monumental task but they had dozens of guys on hand working to get everyone away. They also had mini tugs dotted all over the show area that shadowed you as you broke away just in case you got caught by the tide or had a hicup , they could nip alongside and nudge you out, thankfully we managed not to make a hash of it although it is really nerve racking with hundreds of other skippers watching as you dodge in and around all the other toons and other yachts getting out.
Apologies for all the OR pics, I didn't have a lot of time to wander around and see much else as we were very busy.
Slideshow as I haven't worked out how to post pics here properly yet on the new site , mine all seem to end up as mini previews :-(.
All in all an excellent show and well worth it if anyone is looking for a change from the usual Euro shows.
