Just had a night in Gaios, last night and here's some observations to share.
They are now enforcing 2 Euros per meter, to moor up overnight, in the main harbour.
Water & Eleci is available, but for them, you purchase a card from the shops, opposite the connection thingies.
The main harbour was full, at 18:00, with very few spaces left in the outer, concrete harbour.
There were loads and loads of Italian kids, all off 50 foot charter boats, all running amok, up and down the quayside.
All highly entertaining, with no responsible adults in sight.
Still able to find a few bar's (away from the quayside) with Beer at 4e for a large Alpha...!
All in all though, it was great to get down there, if only for the one night.
Dreading the forthcoming Greek Heatwave!!

I was also there last night.
The Italian sailing boats with kids are regular each summer in the Ionian. My experience with them (in Preveza) is that they are ok. Not too loud but still kids in their teenage years.

I was moored in nortehern quay where it is prohitbited to anchor between 10am and 5 pm (turist boats).
It costs 26eur for a 43footer.
It still smells in the inner harbour...

I was there in the beginning of April. Bliss....
The Port Police wanted to check all our documents and charged us for one night, while allowing us to stay four nights.
Sailing in Greece is even nicer in April or October.

Gaios...charging for mooring onto the Concrete Quay, as well as the inner, main Harbour.

Just had a night in Gaios....2 Euros per meter, to moor up overnight...

The main harbour was full, at 18:00, with very few spaces left in the outer, concrete harbour.

Which would indicate that in July/August at least, the 'market' will stand these mooring charges, in which case you can't fault the Paxos Authorities for maximising the island's income; the more budget-concious livaboard/long-term cruising fleet will need to heed overstag and visit early/late in the season when the authorities will no doubt continue to be a little for flexible about mooring charges.

Full of mainly charter boat , we was charged in April , the place was empty ,
the only person I can blane is my self for going in there . There no doubt Gaios as become a rip off .
And the local businesses are losting out in the long run , other wise they won't be complaining about the charges .
A charming place it was once but now it a hell hole , with tour boat and well as charter cross anchoring , rats on part of the quay and at time no water or power working , that's without the tour boat flooding the place with people .
There many other places on Paxio you can go which are much nicer at no cost

Gaios has always been a bit of a bun fight from mid May through to early September. They used to charge €15 for a 12 metre boat but if it's gone up to €24 then we won't be visiting. However, I don't think the inhabitants of the town will miss us much, as they have more than enough custom from the charter boats, flotillas and mad Italians. And that's before you consider the insane numbers of day trippers that are coming into the town now.

Personally, I'm a huge Fan of Gaios. Been going there for over 20 years now, and still love the place. I did get the distinct impression that all the Tavernas have gone a little upmarket. All smart and tidy.
There were several new ones opened up, and on the walk into town from the North Quay, there's a spectacular looking one called ''Meditaraneano'' (or something like that) with tables outside, on the quayside, and on various verandas, behind the restaurant, all the way up the cliff face. It looked brilliant, and I intend to give it a go, next time I'm there with the Missus (I'm confident it wont be cheep...!).
(My other fave place is Vassiliki, on the south coast of Levkas, but I can't get in there with this boat as I need 2.3m.)

We've enjoyed Mediterráneo, and kept the price reasonable by sharing one fancy fishy dish, one veggy and one salad. The helpings were big enough.

And, of course, mooring tied back to the island is free. We always put out rat guards.

TonyMS

I was there Saturday and Sunday nights last week on way to Corfu to pick up son and DiL. Anchored with lines ashore to the island and had a pleasant 2 nights apart from the very high prices in the bars and tavernas. Stopped on the quay on the way back for 1 night and got stung for 27 euros. Enormous noise all night from partying charter boats and locals who revved their motor bikes along the quay at all hours. To top it off son had food poisoning after dinner and spent all the next day in bed. May not have been dinner but we'll never know. Anyway the quay is most definitely off my list of desirable places to stay. A huge rip off!
The north quay still has a few spaces for yachts at all times and the tripper boat spaces are available from 5PM until 10AM
