I need to paint my topsides. To calculate the amount of paint needed, I need to know the surface area of the topsides. Which formula do I use?

L X W + 10%
Measure the maximum height, boot topping to toe rail. (W).
Measure and add together the length of each side + width of transom at widest point.(L).
This will give you a small contigency as the topsides almst certainly taper, as will the transom.
Add 10% just in case.
If you haven't got the boat or a tape measure handy, let
L = 2 X LOA + Beam
