Forming/using a Delaware company for boat ownership

Should you ever need embassy help with an offshore registered boat ... good luck. I have known several to go through this.

The way the UK will see it is that you registered it overseas to avoid taxes and such, so go ask them for help. It's not a UK boat. Delaware will say "we don't do help." So the boat will sit and sit and sit until you pay whatever.

That is irrelevant for the OP as he is an Irish citizen resident in Turkey and the boat will never get anywhere near the UK.

BTW the UK government would not see overseas registration on its own as indicating it was a tax dodge - they are much more sophisticated than that and there is nothing illegaal in the UK about registering your boat elsewhere, not least because registration is not compulsory for a UK based boat that does not leave the UK

I haven't really looked into this in detail and maybe I am missing something obvious, but...
Why not register the boat in Turkey?
From what a quick Google showed me, Turkish registry is open to any nationality and does not require a survey.
And there's no EU VAT.
So, ... (just as a matter of interest)

My sincere sympathy. I think this place could manage without you for a few days if you need a break.

:eek::D

Actually forums are like therapy ..... most of my work is conducted via Internet as operations are in various locations around the world. I have to deal with so many nationalities with all their ways ... it gets extremely tiring and frustrating ...

Yeah. No EU VAT in Türkiye but plenty of Turkish KDV and OTV and a list of import tariffs and duties as long as your outstretched arms. Combined the taxes, duties and fees on importing 2nd hand boats could amount to more than 100% of the purchase price. It is generally accepted here that it's simply a non runner. Apparently the strategy is to protect the local boat building sector.

@Refueler
I just asked you to give an example of 1 or 2 EU countries - @Koeketiene has obliged, thanks. I have to say I'm surprised but c'est la vie.
As regards UK Part 1 the surveyor is not to "inspect" your boat. It's to measure and certify tonnage which by the way has nothing to do with the weight.
Also because it is a register of title the surveyor has to certify that the boat actually exists and is what is claimed on the application. You can imagine the potential scams if a boat that does not exist has title registered which allows the "owner" to raise money secured against the registered title.

You only need to follow the oligarchs' superyachts stories to see the sort of games that can be played.
